Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came and lived on earth as foretold by God in the past. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born to Mary in Bethlehem, was crucified, died, was buried, rose again on the third day, and returned both to be restored to His glory and to be our representative in heaven.

What is Christianity?

In the wake of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and by the preaching of the apostles, a large number of people put their faith in Jesus as Messiah/Christ and became His followers, i.e. they committed themselves to obeying the teachings of Jesus. It was these disciples who were first called Christians (Acts 11:26).

Further, for those who have accepted Christ as their Saviour and received His Spirit, God has adopted to be His children – being restored in loving relationship with Him. (Romans 8:14-16)

What do Christians believe?

We believe that God is the Creator everything, including every single individual person.

We believe that every person has sinned. Sin is failing to meet God’s perfect standard and rejecting him from our lives. Romans 3:23 states “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

Because we have sinned and because God is just, there is a required penalty/punishment for sin. Just like when we break a law, we will be punished for it (i.e. pay a fine, go to jail). The penalty for sin is a broken relationship with God resulting in both physical and spiritual death, which is ultimately eternal separation from a holy God.

We are completely helpless – we cannot (and often do not even try) make amends for our moral failure. So God took the initiative to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to become a man and die on the cross. This was in order to take the punishment for our sins on our behalf. The essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ is this, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.

Everyone needs to make a personal decision about believing in Jesus Christ. This is a life and death decision with eternal consequences.

However, this is not all there is to what Christians believe. This is only the beginning of a spiritual journey.
